How Insurance Works

Do I need PIP insurance if I have Health Insurance?

Personal Injury Protection Insurance is also known as PIP and it’s part of your auto insurance policy, or at least it should be. Take a look and make sure that you have PIP insurance and if you don’t, contact your agent right away and purchase some. It doesn’t matter if you have health insurance. Health insurance isn’t enough and here’s why. Unlike health insurance, PIP insurance has no deductible, it has no co-pay, it has no preauthorization and you get to pick your doctor, you don’t have to go to some sort of a network, you don’t have to go to the doctor that the health insurance chooses. You get to go to your own doctor. But more importantly, health insurance sometimes won’t pay your bills if you’ve been injured in a car wreck. They’ll hold your bills, they’ll make you enter into new contracts, and they won’t pay your bills right away, which will cause you problems if you’ve had medical bills, you don’t want to have to go to collection, you don’t want to have to reach into your pocket, and you don’t want to have trouble. Also, on the other end of the case, you’re going to have to pay back your health insurance company, so if you had a wreck and you had bills, and it wasn’t your fault, and maybe your health insurance pays a little bit of it, your health insurance company at the end is going to come back and ask you for that money back. And they’re really difficult about it. PIP insurance on the other hand doesn’t always ask for that money back. Quite often it’s not entitled to ask for the money back and usually there are great discounts that we can get that can put more money into your pocket. So do yourself a favor and get PIP insurance today. You really do need it.
